Off-Track Garage Door Repair

Garage door jumped the tracks? Do not force it. We safely reset and realign your door same-day so it operates smoothly and stays on track.

Why Garage Doors Go Off Track

A garage door that has come off its tracks is one of the most common and most dangerous situations homeowners face. Understanding what causes it can help you prevent it from happening again.

  • Impact damage — A car bumping into the door while it is closed is the number one cause. Even a low-speed tap can knock the bottom rollers out of the track.
  • Broken cable — When a lift cable snaps, the door loses support on one side and can shift sideways, pulling the rollers out of the track.
  • Worn-out rollers — Rollers that have lost their bearings or are chipped can pop out of the track during operation.
  • Bent or misaligned tracks — Tracks that have been dented or that have shifted out of alignment over time can cause the rollers to derail.
  • Broken spring — A broken torsion spring can cause the door to drop suddenly and unevenly, forcing rollers out of the track.
  • Obstruction in the track — Debris, tools, or objects left near the track can block a roller and force it off course.

Never Force an Off-Track Garage Door

An off-track garage door is extremely dangerous. Here is why you should never try to force it back into position yourself:

  • The door can fall. A door that is off its tracks is not properly supported. It can drop suddenly, weighing 150–300+ pounds. This can cause serious injury or death.
  • Springs are still loaded. Even with the door off track, the springs may still be under tension. Attempting to move the door can release this tension unpredictably.
  • Forcing it causes more damage. Trying to shove the door back onto the track with brute force almost always bends the tracks, damages the rollers, and can crack the door panels — turning a simple reset into a much more expensive repair.
  • The opener can make it worse. Never use the opener to try to force an off-track door. The motor will try to drive the door through the obstruction, bending tracks and stripping gears in the process.

What to do instead: Disconnect the opener by pulling the red emergency release cord, keep everyone away from the door, and call Strongman at (281) 803-8867. We will be there same-day to fix it safely.

Same-Day Off-Track Reset and Alignment

When we arrive for an off-track repair, here is what we do:

  1. Secure the door. We safely stabilize the door to prevent it from falling or shifting further.
  2. Identify the cause. We determine why the door came off track — broken cable, bent track, failed roller, impact damage, or another root cause.
  3. Reset the rollers. We carefully guide each roller back into the track without forcing or bending anything.
  4. Straighten and align the tracks. If the tracks are bent or misaligned, we straighten them and verify proper alignment using a level.
  5. Replace damaged components. If the off-track event was caused by a broken cable, worn roller, or other failed part, we replace it on the spot.
  6. Test and verify. We cycle the door multiple times to make sure it tracks smoothly, the opener operates correctly, and the safety sensors are aligned.

Most off-track repairs are completed in 45–90 minutes. You get upfront pricing before we start and a written warranty when we are done.
